Accessible Tourism
Accessible Tourism in Powell River & Regional District
The City of Powell River, host of the successful 2007 BC Disability Games, is well equipped to meet the needs of persons with disabilities. There is a fully accessible multi-sport Recreation Complex, an entire fleet of low-floor or kneeling city buses, a handyDART mini-bus system, graded ramps along most of its sidewalks, as well as parking spaces set aside for people with disabilities.
The BC Ferry system is also equipped with elevators and accessible washrooms, while Pacific Coastal Airlines — serving the City of Powell River and other locations throughout BC — makes itself available to people with disabilities.
More importantly, there are many plans under way to provide even more activities for people with disabilities, and to update existing infrastructure to further increase accessibility and inclusion.
It is recommended that prior to visiting the suggested locations, users of this guide directly contact the site of interest, or
