On behalf of the board of directors, volunteers, staff and members of the Powell River Model Community Project for Persons with Disabilities (MCP), I would like to express our sincere appreciation to all those involved with the publication of this edition of the Business and Access Guide. This is a valuable tool for our community. Thanks go out to all advertisers, supporters and donors for once again making this a reality.

For the first time this edition of the publication has all been done in house and we are grateful to the Province of BC through the Job Creation Project for providing the funds to hire the staff that have done such an exemplary job. This edition is an update and shows how Powell River continues to be a Model Community in striving for accessibility and inclusiveness in our community. This guide is also available online; for more information please visit www.praccess.ca.

The MCP has continued to increase visibility for persons living in our community who have challenges and we are proud of accomplishments in the areas of Transportation, Housing, Education, Employment, Recreation and the integration of Persons With Disabilities into the mainstream of the community. This Guide is also a teaching tool for other communities as they work toward accessibility and inclusiveness.

We would also like to recognize Mayor and Council, Regional Board Directors, School District 47 and all businesses and organizations that make us proud to call Powell River home. We are a Model Community that the world can learn from.

Sincerely,

Deborah Dee, BMT, FAMI

The Powell River Model Community Project for Persons with Disabilities

Tourism Powell River is a proud supporter of the Accessibility Guide and the Powell River Model Community Project for Persons with Disabilities. Since its inception, Model Community has made great strides in making our community fully accessible and inclusive, and continues to launch projects that improve the quality of life for all residents of the region.

Tourism Powell River is very proud of the number of activities available to persons with disabilities visiting and living in the region. This guide has a special section related directly to tourism activities and their level of accessibility. Our organization is thrilled that this part of the guide has been developed as it will be a very useful tool for visitors to the region.

I want to commend Model Community Project for another successful edition of the Accessibility Guide and welcome all visitors to this region to explore all that Powell River has to offer!

Sincerely,

Russell Brewer
